Hi!

Thanks for stopping by!

A little about me: I’m a Chinese-American who was born in the US but spent nearly 7 years of my life in Shanghai and moved back to the US a few years ago.

For the longest time, I just thought I really liked eating. I honestly never considered myself a foodie (hence the name of this website). But in retrospect, it’s almost as if all the stars aligned and I was fated to be one. From my heritage and family to my own adventures and career path, it didn’t matter what direction I went in life, one thing was and has always been consistent – I am completely obsessed with food.

To start off, my mom is a fantastic cook (she used to be a chef). Then after I graduated college, I started living on my own. Up to this point, cooking really didn’t really interest me much, but I had been spoiled by my mom’s culinary skills and my steady diet at the time of instant ramen, box mac and cheese, and hot pockets just wasn’t cutting it. However, like every other young adult just starting out, I was poor and couldn’t afford to eat out a lot. So, in a desperate attempt to save my wallet and sanity, I started trying to cook for myself at home.

While some of my first dishes were questionable at best (e.g. my “brilliant” idea for chicken tofu burgers that went straight into the trash – ok, maybe A LOT of my first dishes were questionable now that I’m thinking about it LOL), after a while, what started out as a means to an end became a full-blown passion, and the rest is history.

I find 2 things immensely fascinating about food: 1) the creative license you have with it – a dash of this, a pinch of that, and poof! What was bland and mundane has now become wildy interesting and you can’t stop shoveling it in your mouth fast enough; and 2) how much you can learn from it – especially when you’re traveling. There’s nothing I love more than trying new foods while on the adventure of a lifetime, and then being able to bring that inspiration back to my own kitchen at a later time.

So thanks for joining me on this new adventure into the blogosphere, and I hope that you enjoy what I have to offer as much as I have – Bon Appétit!

xoxo,
Aurora
